DESCRIPTION:You won’t want to miss August’s Third Wednesday Workshop\, “Glimmers and Sparks: Where Ideas Come From\,” presented by Lisa C. Taylor and hosted by ZU Gallery. \nFrom Lisa: \n“Joan Didion once said\, ‘I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking\, what I’m looking at\, what I see\, and what it means\, what I want and what I fear.’ Can tiny moments hint at a bigger story? Years ago\, I had a tour guide in Ireland who looked Vietnamese but had an Irish accent. He told me his mother was Vietnamese\, and his father was Irish. The character in the novel I’m now working on came out of that moment. Standing in line\, going to the grocery store or the post office offer opportunities for finding characters. The photo that fell out of a man’s wallet while I was waiting in the Motor Vehicle Department line became the beginning of a short story. Forgetting to lock the door in an airport bathroom became the spark for another story. In this presentation\, I’ll give you some ideas for writing and tricks to becoming a more acute observer. Characters are everywhere and it’s up to us to find them. We’ll be writing and sharing.” \nAs always\, all genres and experience levels are welcome and admission is free.
