If you can\, show up early to purchase a snack or beverage (or a book!) in support of our generous hosts at ZU Gallery! \nTitle: “This Walking for the Heart: Life Lessons from Poetry”\nPresenter: Kirbie Bennett\nbeing born is the easy part\, yes\nit is this staying here that’s difficult\nthis walking for the heart without being certain\nexactly why\, threading a path through the city\nas though i could gather these streets\nand bridges to me\, hold them in this moment\nshining\, unassailable\n– Catherine Hunter \nWorkshop Description: \nFor this workshop\, essayist and poet Kirbie Bennett will discuss his writing journey and share his insight on using poetry in the personal essay. As an Indigenous person rooted in the Southwest\, Kirbie’s writing covers a range of topics\, including memoir\, Indigenous history\, resistance art\, and reflections on his favorite punk bands. Not bound to any genre\, but bound to the Southwest and eager to share his obsessions through storytelling\, join us for this memorable presentation and reading from Kirbie Bennett. \nKirbie Bennett is an essayist\, poet and audio producer. His work has appeared in various publications\, including High Country News\, KSUT Public Radio\, 68-to-oh5\, Chapter House Journal and the print anthology Four Corners Voices. He is also part of the creative team behind The Magic City of the Southwest\, a regional history podcast. Kirbie is from the Navajo Nation and Durango\, Colorado is another place he calls home.
